MECCA’s programs and initiatives are designed to support the spiritual, professional, educational, and communal well-being of Muslim uniformed and non-uniformed employees of the New York City Department of Correction, while positively engaging families and the broader community.

Core Program Areas
Educational & Faith-Based Programs
MECCA develops and supports educational initiatives that promote understanding of Islam, strengthen religious literacy, and encourage ethical conduct in personal and professional life.
These efforts include:
• Islamic education and workshops
• Faith-based guidance and learning opportunities
• Religious awareness initiatives within institutional settings
Certain faith-based initiatives are facilitated by qualified members of the General Membership categories, in accordance with MECCA’s By-Laws.
Youth Development & Scholarships
MECCA is committed to investing in the next generation through youth-focused programs and educational support.
This includes:
• Academic encouragement and mentorship
• Scholarship initiatives, including the Imam Umar Abdul-Jalil Scholarship Fund
• Programs that support student growth, leadership, and opportunity
Scholarship programs are administered in accordance with established policies and timelines.
Community Outreach & Service
MECCA engages in charitable and service-oriented initiatives that reflect Islamic values of compassion, generosity, and social responsibility.
These initiatives may include:
• Charitable giving and humanitarian assistance
• Support for families, youth, and vulnerable populations
• Community service efforts in partnership with other organizations
Professional Development & Mentorship
MECCA supports the professional growth of its members through mentorship, leadership development, and guidance.
These efforts are designed to:
• Support newly hired and developing staff
• Encourage ethical leadership and accountability
• Strengthen professional excellence within the workplace
