Frequently Asked Questions
Is purchasing merchandise the same as becoming a MECCA member?
No. Purchasing official MECCA merchandise does not confer membership, voting rights, or any governance privileges within the organization.
Membership is obtained by completing an official MECCA membership application and meeting eligibility requirements as outlined in MECCA’s By-Laws.
Membership is limited to eligible uniformed and non-uniformed employees and retirees of the New York City Department of Correction.
Approval of membership is separate from donations or merchandise purchases.
Donations support MECCA’s exempt purposes, including educational programming, scholarships, charitable initiatives, community outreach, and member services, in furtherance of MECCA’s mission.
Proceeds from official MECCA merchandise support MECCA’s mission and programs. Merchandise sales help sustain educational initiatives, scholarships, outreach efforts, and organizational operations.
Donations may be tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. Any deductible portion will be identified in writing when applicable.
Merchandise purchases are generally not tax-deductible unless otherwise specified.
